"When people think of people with disabilities, they always think in terms of limitations. They never think about the possibilities." - Toronto Blind Tennis player
"I was told that I didn't fit the 'demographic'. That scarred me after he said that. It is a reminder, that based on me being BLACK, I don't make the cut. This is the reason I coach now, so this doesn't happen to anyone of color." - founding member of Change Through Sport

Rexdale Volleyball, formerly known as NACI Volleyball, was founded by Fei Chan. He is affectionately known as “Chan” by his players and alumni. Born out of his love for volleyball and a desire to use sports to create new opportunities for his students and those in the neighbourhood, Chan began developing the NACI program in 2012. For the past 10 years he has added to the program, recruiting and partnering with local teachers and coaches with the goal of making volleyball more accessible to the Rexdale community regardless of racial and socio-economic backgrounds, and the sporting season.
As the program has grown and students have moved on to bigger and brighter opportunities, alumni and prior participants continue to return to the program as volunteer coaches and guest speakers – hoping to pass the legacy onwards.
The main thrust of Rexdale Volleyball is to provide equitable opportunities in the Rexdale community. We believe with increased opportunities, our youth would enjoy successes similar to other young people in different neighborhoods. Over the years, we have accomplished the following:
-
Engaged 200+ youth participants
-
Activated 20+ volunteers
-
Partnered with 5 local schools and 2 not-for-profit organizations
As the African proverb goes, "it takes a village to raise a child". We are happy to have a role in the "village" of our youth. We understand that our contribution is not the only reason why our youth will succeed. Here, we celebrate our people wherever their endeavors may take them!
